Everything You Should Know About Mosquito Bites

Mosquito Bites

Around the world, there are countless insects which are distinguished according to the zones and the climate of each region. Among these is the famous mosquito. What are mosquitoes? A large number of people identify all flying “bugs” as insects. Undoubtedly this is a mistake and, despite being, it is more common than believed. The truth is that there are several species in the world. These are relatives of flies. Thus, they enter the circle of Diptera. They are estimated to have a very short life span, of about a couple of weeks, in which they go through four different phases.

Mosquito bites

With regard to the bite of “mosquitoes”, it should be noted that only one species is the cause of the same.  These are the culicides mentioned above.

To clarify a little to which reference is made, we will mention some of them.

  • Culicides are characterized by their small size and, of course, by being flying.
  • Another relevant aspect regarding mosquito bites refers to the genus. The female is in charge of choosing and attacking her victim. In this case, he does it in search of blood, which he needs to fulfill the cycle of fertilization; If it does not, there is a possibility that it will be infertile.

For their part, the males feed on fruits and nectar. This eliminates the possibility of absorbing blood, both people, and other animals.

Why do mosquitoes bite?

First, they do it by subsistence, as we have indicated previously. Added to this, there are also other factors that affect the sting.

Here are the most relevant ones.

Lactic acid

This is emitted by means of sweating and breathing, and usually, attracts insects (especially mosquitoes).

Among the individuals who produce higher emissions of this, we find women in gestation processes, as well as the tall people.

On the other hand, athletes also tend to be easy prey of these animals, especially after performing some training session.

Carbon dioxide (CO2)

Something similar to what happened with lactic acid happens with CO2. This is released through the breath and attracts a large number of mosquitoes.

In conclusion, these factors are usually indicative of the presence of large amounts of fresh blood. This gives us the explanation of why mosquitoes are tempted to make their bites.

How to determine if a mosquito bite?

These annoying insects are almost invisible. Beyond that, they are considered imperceptible, except when they emit a kind of ringing in the ear.

Usually, we only feel them when they have done their work, the famous bite or mosquito picket.
