One of the worst things that a website owner can find online is a bad review. Now, what happens if someone searches for your company name and a majority of the results are bad? While some of these reviews can be true, many customers can leave angry comments when they are bitter. Since many customers and people don’t generally leave great reviews, it’s important that you try to protect your reputation online in any way you can. No matter what kind of business you have, here are some key things that you can do to protect your reputation:
- Have Customers Write
If you own a retail shop or a physical presence where customers actually walk into your store, try to get them to leave a positive review. Whether you hand out a business card with information on how to do so or even give them a laptop to let them leave it, let them know that every positive that they leave is extremely important to your business.
- Optimize Business Profiles
Many powerful websites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are all great free websites that let you create a business profile. With this profile, you will more than likely rank for your business name when people search for it since this website already has a lot of authority. If you haven’t done so already, make sure that you create these profiles, and try to update them as often as you can.
- Create a Blog
Creating a blog on your domain that is update on a weekly update can often rank for your business name. Aside from your main URL, the blog URL can show up below it, taking up the top two spots. Now, if you have Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, you can see how quickly you can take up the top five spots.
- Web 2.0
Aside from the LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook pages, consider creating content on other websites such as Squidoo, HubPages, Tumblr and Blogspot. Again, these are authoritative websites that can rank almost instantly for your business name, considering it isn’t that competitive.
- Play it Smart
A major problem that many website owners make is that they don’t update their website or they copy and paste content from other websites. When you create duplicate content, you probably already know that search engines won’t rank you. What you’re going to want to do is try to update your website at least once a week and just make sure that the content is unique.
While you can create all of the profiles and blogs mentioned above, some may not rank as well as planned. If you have negative reviews outranking your profiles, then you may want to consider throwing some links toward the sites that aren’t ranking as well. For instance, if your Hotel di Bogor blog is ranking #11 and you have a site ranking ahead of that at #10, then a few links may boot it to #10.
Protecting your reputation should be your number one goal on the web. If you have a lot of negative reviews, people may not want to buy from you. Keep in mind that you can have the best business in the world, but if a competitor tries to create false negative reviews, there’s nothing that you can do to stop them.
